This law came into force in July 2007 and applies in the UK and the rest of the EU. The F-gas Law has been less publicised than the high profile ‘Smoking Ban Law’ but is however no less important to be aware of. The main objective of this law is to contain, prevent and reduce emissions of F-gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol. It has an impact on you as a commercial operator if your club uses air conditioning, warm air heating, cellar cooling or refrigeration. You are legally responsible for compliance with the regulation which relates to servicing, repairs, leakage and record keeping on all appliances in permanent fixture on your premises with a gas charge of over 3kg.
WHAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR
• To prevent leakages and to repair as soon as possible.
• To ensure that only competent qualified personnel carry out leakage service work and testing.
• To carry out checks in accordance with instructions defined by the European Commission.
• To keep and maintain records of service and testing as defined by the European Commission. You must be able to record, monitor and identify who undertakes work on your F-Gas installs.
